This is the first Star Log I have written. The first of many, I hope. I have been brought to this by starting an EdX class from the Smithsonian. I was drawn to this class by my love of Star Trek. The class is Star Trek: Inspiring Culture and Technology. I have always loved Star Trek. I remember my first episode. As I watched, my life changed. I no longer dreamnt of riding horses or figure skating. I wanted science. I wanted space. I wanted to know everything. I remember when a tiny me impressed a visiting science teacher during his presentation. He asked why lightbulbs didn’t catch on fire. I knew from watching an episode of The Next Generation fire cannot burn in the vacuum of space. So, I raised my little hand and told him that there wasn’t any air inside lightbulbs. I could tell from his reaction and the reactions of my teacher and classmates this was not something I should know. I felt amazing. My love for Star Trek grew with each episode I watched and rewatched.
